Potentiality of Rod-Type Chitosan Adsorbent Derived from Sewage Sludge

The potential use of wastewater sludge as a biosorbent for the removal various metals and metalloids from aqueous solutions was investigated. immobilized in rod shape with chitosan to improve sorption capacity solid–liquid separation ability. An optimal condition production rod-shaped chitosan-immobilized (RCS) determined by considering As(V) efficiency. contents RCS thickness were 6.0%, 4.0%, 0.2–0.3 mm, respectively. anion performance investigated As(V), Cr(VI), Mn(VII), cation Cd(II). Pseudo-first-order pseudo-second-order models adequately explained kinetic data RCS, while Langmuir Freundlich equilibrium RCS. These results showed that has higher adsorption anions than cations. also indicated electrostatic attraction or ion exchange is main mechanism metal/metalloid except case Mn(VII) where an adsorption-coupled reduction may be suggested.
